February 2012 Blog - The Writing ProcessHey there blog readers! First things first, we have still received no word from Slipknot RE: Beef Wid CiTC. Though I did hear a rumour in from a friend in The Wrongun in Bexleyheath that Joey Jordison thinks he’s better at throwing than our guitarist Stephen…we’ll keep you updated on that saga as and when the news comes in.
So we may have been a little quiet recently, but we are still working hard! We have begun the initial stages of creating a new album, which is still a relatively new experience for us. With the first album, that was just us getting together and writing songs, there was no agenda or thought of critics or the general public, just creating music together, having fun and then being fortunate enough to be liked by Erased Tapes records. The second album was almost a bit of a challenge for us. We made ourselves step away from the first album (having played the songs from it continuously for the best part of 3 years) and make something more introspective and personal. This album, however, is different. It’s our third album now, and it all seems a little more real than the previous records. We don’t mean that in a bad way, it’s challenging and extremely exciting.
We’re currently at the first demoing stage of the new record. We’ve been locked away in our rehearsal space for a few months now, writing new material as well as finessing the new songs we took on the road with us to festivals and on tour towards the end of last year. We have no plans set in stone for when it will be released, all we know is that we need to finish writing it.
The whole writing process thus far has been on gut level only, which could be to our detriment or to our gain. This is the first time there hasn’t been any meticulous thought process going into every minutia of the songs; it has been a play-what-you-feel writing style, which we’ve found very cathartic.
